Daytona State is creating an Esports program! There is no cost to join a team and try outs will be held in the fall. If you have any questions, please email esports@daytonastate.edu or our Esports Coordinator sebastian_morales3201@daytonastate.edu.

- What is Esports?
Esports is a competitive league for video games with multiple levels of competition. In fact, it’s currently the fastest growing sport.
- What games will be played?
The games that will be played are dependent on the interests and skill levels of individuals wanting to join.
- Who can play?
For all tiers (3, 2, and 1), only students can participate.
- Where is this taking place?
Intramural (tier 3) can be played from anywhere. Open (tier 2) and Invitational (tier 1) will take place on the Daytona Campus in building 115; the room is still being determined.
- When is it starting?
Intramural (tier 3) can be joined anytime. Open (tier 2) and Invitational (tier 1) is currently slated to begin in the Fall of 2023.
- Do you have to play on a team?
This is determined by the game being played.
- Can you play on console or just PC?
Almost all games will be played on PC, although some may be on console.
- Who's in charge? How do I apply?
The Athletics Department is in charge of the Esports program. Applications will be available soon!
- Does it cost anything to join?
It’s free to join!
- If we make it to a tournament, do I have to pay anything?
No, the college covers all costs for the Esports team.
- Are there cash prizes in tournaments?
Depending on the tournaments played, there may be cash prizes.
- Are there any scholarships?
At this time currently no, in the future... maybe ;)
- Who do I contact for more information?

- Are there any degrees that correlate with Esports?
While there are no degrees directly related to Esports, we do have a number of peripheral degrees that can be used in the wider field of Esports (Digital Media Interactive, Broadcasting, Music/Audio Production, and various IT degrees)
- Who would I be competing against? Competitive field? Internationally?
For Intramural (tier 3), you would play against each other and in Intramural league tournaments. Open/Invitational teams would compete against NJCAA-E league tournament participants.
- Are there GPA requirements?
Open/Invitational (tier 2/1), yes.
- Is there a required course load?
Open/Invitational (tier 2/1), yes.
- Is there a skill level required?
For Intramural (tier 3), no. Open (tier 2) and Invitational (tier 1), yes.
- What size teams?
The size of teams is determined by the game being played. Most games are teams of 1 to 5 players.
- With Intramural, how are teammates communicating with one another? In game chat? Discord channel?
Whatever is your preferred method. We do have a school Discord channel though!
- Do you stream any Esports events?
We sure plan to in the future!
- If I don't see a game I want to play, can I request a game?
Yes, but ultimately if it’s a team and there are not enough people interested, it will not be approved.
- Is there one team or multiple teams?
We will have a main roster competing in tier 1. We can have a second roster competing in tier 2 as a B team.
- Can I play on multiple teams for multiple games?
Not on a compettitive roster.
- Can we have multiple teams playing the same game?
Yes
- When is the Esports season? How long is the season?
There are multiple seasons throughout the year, the most prominent being Spring and Fall. The season is crafted by the NJCAA-E, and they determine the dates.
- How often will Esports teams practice?
TBD
- Are there going to be captains for the teams?
Yes, TBD
- Will the teams ever travel for tournaments?
There is the potential of a team making it to a LAN in playoffs. In this case it is very possible!
