Falcons Sit Tied Atop Citrus Standings After Securing Key Victory To Close Out January Conference Play
Tampa, Fla. — January31, 2026
The Daytona State Falcons took care of business on the road, earning a convincing 75–54 win over Hillsborough Community College on a chilly Florida afternoon in Tampa, Florida. The Falcons set the tone early and carried a 32–27 lead into halftime, fueled by sharp offensive play and stunting team defense.
Daytona State knocked down eight three-pointers on the day and showcased impressive balance on offense. Seven different Falcons scored six or more points, making it difficult for Hillsborough to key in on any single scorer. Three players reached double figures, led by Tyrese Lacey's 14 points. Adrian Shackleton followed closely with 13, while Alex Harper added 12 to round out a steady and efficient scoring effort.
Defensively, the Falcons were just as effective. They focused their attention on Hillsborough's top threat, Chandler Davis, and held him to 16 points—five below his season average. The Falcons ramped up the pressure and physicality in the second half, wearing down Hillsborough and building a lead as big as 26 points.
The victory keeps the Falcons atop the Citrus Conference standings. With the first round of conference play complete, Daytona State sits tied for first place with Florida Southwestern, both teams holding a 7–1 record and momentum heading into the next stretch of the season. The Falcons (18-4) go on the road next Wednesday, February 4th, for a rematch with nearby conference foe, Eastern Florida State College.
