The Daytona State Falcons had quite a weekend going 4-2 in the Panama City Beach JUCO Softball Showdown. The Falcons secured wins over #4 Jones College, #11 Pearl River Community College, #1, Patrick & Henry Community College, and #15 Chattanooga State Community College.
Jones College on February 7, 2025
Daytona State College came out strong, scoring two runs in the first inning and continued their offensive pressure with additional runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Kennedy Carr went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Azlynn Gomes also had a notable performance, getting on base four times and scoring twice.
On the defensive side, Ava Unser pitched and held Jones College scoreless until the sixth inning. Jones managed to score two runs in the sixth, but it was too little, too late. They were limited to just four hits throughout the game.
Pearl River Community College on February 7, 2025
In a thrilling matchup, Daytona State took an early lead with a run in the 1st inning. After maintaining their lead, Pearl River made a strong push in the fourth, scoring three runs. The Falcons responded by putting six runs on the board in the 6th inning, which ultimately sealed the game. Hope Barnett went 2-for-3 and scored once, while Kennedy Carr, Kaili Cannon, and Morgan Davis all contributed RBIs. The game came to an end when center fielder Logan Ringel came in clutch with a phenomenal diving catch in the right center field gap.
Northwest Florida State College on February 8th
Daytona State College faced off against #4 Northwest Florida State College in a very close and intense game.
The game started with Daytona State College taking an early lead with a run in the first inning. However, Northwest Florida quickly responded with two runs of their own. By the end of the third inning, Northwest Florida was up 3-1. They continued to build their lead with two more runs in the fifth and another two in the sixth inning, making it 7-1.
The Daytona State Falcons made a huge effort in the seventh inning, scoring four runs, but still fell short. The final score was 7-5, with Northwest Florida State College securing the win.
Key performances included Morgan Davis who went 3-for-3, doubles from Kennedy Carr and Gabby Giugliano. Along with RBIs from Azlynn Gomes, Alexa Edmands, and Gissel Morale. Despite the loss, Daytona State College showed resilience, especially in their late-game rally and throughout the game defensively.
Patrick & Henry Community College on February 8th, 2025
Daytona State took another win in Panama as they beat Patrick & Henry Community College 10-7 on Saturday.
The game kicked off with an early lead as the Falcons put up three runs in the first inning, while Patrick & Henry weren't too far behind scoring two. After a scoreless second inning, the bats were on fire for the Falcons from the 3rd - 6th innings. Alexa Edmands and Kennedy Carr put on a strong performance each going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI's. Aurielle Reavis also contributed two RBIs and crossed the plate twice herself. Additional runs scored from Carr, Edmands, Ellerby, Morales, and Luna.
Patrick & Henry started to make a comeback in the 5th but fell short as Daytona State held them throughout the rest of the game thanks to Alexis Miranda's steady relief performance. After taking over she threw 2.2 scoreless innings. It was lights out for the opposing team.
Snead State Community College on February 9th, 2025
It was a tough outing for Daytona State as they struggled to find a rhythm in an 8-0 loss, ending early due to the run rule. The offense couldn't gain any traction, only collecting two hits from Aurielle Reavis and Logan Ringel, while Snead State took control of early pitching and defensive struggles to collect 10. Despite the setback, The Falcons look to bounce back in their next game against Chattanooga State Community College.
Chattanooga State Community College on February 9th, 2025
Daytona State wraps up the Panama City tournament on a high note after coming back to take the win in their second game on Sunday. While it was tight, the matchup against Chattanooga State Community College resulted in a 1-0 victory.
The game was kept 0-0 until the bottom of the 5th. After Hope Barnett barreled up a ball earning a double, Aurielle Reavis, who went 2-for-2 at the plate, drove her in to score a run.
Kaylee Martineau threw a complete shutout to lead the Falcons to a win. Keeping the opposing lineup off balance throughout the game, Martineau allowed only four hits while striking out two across seven innings. With defensive support behind her, Daytona State secured the win.
