Daytona State Drops Doubleheader at No. 18 Seminole State

Daytona State College jumped out early but #18 Seminole State answered with a key swing in the fifth inning to edge the Falcons 4-3 in a tight conference battle.

The Falcons came out strong in the first inning, striking for three runs right away. Ashley Bert drove in the opening run with an RBI single, and Alexa Edmands followed with a two-run single to give Daytona State an early 3-1 advantage.

Seminole State chipped away before delivering the decisive blow in the fifth inning, when a three-run home run flipped the momentum and put the hosts in front 4-3.

Daytona State was held scoreless after the first inning despite scattering five hits, unable to break through against consistent pitching down the stretch.

Seminole State answered in its half of the frame, then seized control in the fifth. The inning unraveled quickly for Daytona State as the hosts strung together extra-base hits and productive at-bats, highlighted by Emma Bastian's RBI double and a two-run knock from Julianna Nieves that pushed the lead to 5-1.

Daytona State chipped away with a run in the sixth, but never fully threatened down the stretch despite putting six hits on the board.
