Daytona State College came up just short at home on Wednesday night, falling 66–60 to Hillsborough Community College in a tight conference matchup at the L. Gale Lemerand Center. The game was back-and-forth throughout, with the score tied at halftime and again after three quarters. In the fourth, the Falcons continued to generate extra chances on the offensive glass and had looks to tie or take the lead late, but Hillsborough was able to sneak just in front in the final minute.
Lamiyah Hogans led Daytona State with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting and added 5 rebounds. Jaeden Williams turned in a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Calise Chisholm battled inside for 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block. Kendall Ruise added 6 rebounds and 5 points off the bench. From the perimeter, Catalina Roco chipped in 9 points with two threes, and Keira Mackinnon provided a spark with 6 points from deep.
The effort on the glass and the number of players impacting the game are encouraging signs as Daytona State works through a packed early-January slate. The Falcons sit at 13–3 overall and 5–1 in conference play. They will play their next conference game at home versus Florida SouthWestern on Saturday, January 17th.
