Falcons Celebrate Sophomore Night With 92–78 Win Over Hillsborough
Daytona State College closed out the regular season at home in style Monday night, defeating Hillsborough Community College 92–78 at the L. Gale Lemerand Center. On Sophomore Night, the Falcons honored Ceylone Brooks, Calise Chisholm, Jayda Scorza, and Catalina Roco before tipoff, then came out flying with a 32-point first quarter to grab early control. Hillsborough continued to hit shots and stayed within reach at halftime, but Daytona State’s offensive balance and energy on the glass kept the Falcons in front the rest of the way.
The sophomores made their presence felt on both ends. Calise Chisholm was efficient inside with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, adding 4 rebounds and a block, while Jayda Scorza poured in 12 points and 6 boards in just 13 minutes. Catalina Roco contributed 8 points and 4 assists from the guard spot, and Ceylone Brooks brought high energy all night. Lamiyah Hogans led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from three, and Jaeden Williams put together another big all-around line with 15 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Off the bench, Keira Mackinnon added 7 points and 7 rebounds, while Khalise Vidal and Kendall Ruise combined for 12 points and 12 boards to keep the pressure on.
As a team, Daytona State shot 48.6% from the field, knocked down 8 threes, and dominated the glass with a 55–35 rebounding edge, leading to plenty of second-chance opportunities as well as transition chances. The Falcons also shared the ball for 22 assists on 34 made shots and got contributions up and down the lineup on a special night at home. With the win, Daytona State improves to 24–4 overall and 16–2 in the Citrus Conference. Falcons take the #2 seed in the regional tournament and head to Niceville, Florida, where they will take on the #7 seed Tallahassee State College on March 12th at 1:00 p.m.
