Daytona State College protected its home floor on Wednesday night, grinding out a 76–71 win over St. Petersburg College. The Falcons led 34–30 at the half, then put together a huge third quarter, pouring in 29 points to create the cushion they needed. St. Petersburg made a run in the fourth, but Daytona State did enough on both ends to close it out.
Falcons were led by Catalina Roco, who came off the bench and caught fire, finishing with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. In the starting group, Khalise Vidal stuffed the stat sheet with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists, while Calise Chisholm battled inside for 7 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Lamiyah Hogans added 7 points, and Ceylone Brooks chipped in 5 points with a made three and solid minutes on both ends.
Daytona State’s depth once again played a big role. Kendall Ruise provided 7 points and 5 boards, and Jayda Scorza made the most of her minutes with 8 points on a perfect 3-for-3 from the field. The Falcons matched St. Petersburg on the glass, shared the ball with 14 assists, and got timely contributions from multiple spots in the rotation, especially during that decisive third-quarter surge.
As a group, Daytona State shot 44.4% from the floor and brought in 12 steals to help secure the win. The Falcons move to 15–3 overall and 7–1 in conference play and will play their next conference game at home versus Miami Dade College on Wednesday, January 28th, at 5:00 p.m.
