LADY FALCONS COMPETE AT GREAT WATERS OCONEE INVITATIONAL
February 21, 2021 – The Lady Falcons Women's Golf Team had back to back events this past week. After finishing play at the First Coast Classic on Tuesday the team had a quick turnaround as they headed to Eatonton, GA on Wednesday to prepare for their next event. The Falcons competed in the 15-team field at the Great Waters Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational hosted by Mercer University. The Falcons started out with a solid first round which had them in a tie for 4th place posting a team score of 304 in very cold and wet conditions. The second round proved to be a bit more of a challenge for the Falcons, as they struggled in tough conditions and posted a 325-team score which dropped them down in the standings. The Lady Falcons rebounded in the final round with a team score of 304 and ended in 12th place for the event. Sophomore Symone Henriques once again led the Falcons by placing 8th in the event with scores of 75-75-74 (223) in the field of 88 players. University of North Florida won the team title by 2 shots with scores of 302-305-291 (898) over Old Dominion who shot 298-305-297 (900). Payton Schanen from Mercer University won the individual title with scores of 70-73-74 (217) by 2 strokes over Teresa Toscano from South Dakota State, Carlota Palacios from Tulane and Tai Anudit from Kennesaw State who all finished in a tie for 2nd with totals of 219.
"This was a fantastic event to be a part of. It was definitely one of the most difficult courses and toughest weather conditions we will play all season. Competing in this caliber of field and providing them with this level of competition will only help them as they continue to develop as players and improve as a team throughout the remainder of the spring season," stated Head Coach Laura Brown. The Falcons return to action in two weeks at the UNF Collegiate March 8th & 9th at Jacksonville Golf and CC in Jacksonville, FL.
