Daytona State Women’s Soccer Team Clinches Regular Season Championship
Daytona Beach, FL – The Daytona State Women's Soccer Team has won the 2024 Regular Season Championship. With a remarkable record of 11-3 (5-1 Region 8), the team highlighted outstanding skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the season.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Hope Clark, the team secured the championship with a thrilling victory against Eastern Florida on Monday night, solidifying their position at the top of the league standings. Key players, including Shaneil Buckley, Valeria Vasquez, Sophia Varga, and Julianna Trujillo played pivotal roles in the team's success, delivering stellar performances on the evening.
"This championship is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes," said Coach Clark. "Their commitment to our vision has truly paid off. We are incredibly proud of what this young team has accomplished."
Buckley netted the first goal of the evening on a set piece in the 12th minute of play. The Falcons would keep the Titans on their heels as they out shot them 8-3 in the first half of play. Heading into the second half, the Falcons would keep up the pressure, but the Titans would strike first tying up the game 1-1 in the 57th minute of play.
Daytona State would continue to push, and Vasquez would get the game winning goal in the 77th minute. Alyse Then broke through the Titan defense and fired a shot on frame as Eastern Florida's goalkeeper was unable to hold onto the ball, Vasquez would continue her run and follow up on the deflection to clinch the game winner.
The Falcons out shot the Titans 18-6. Trujillo would earn three saves on the night.
This regular season championship marks only the second time in school history that the Daytona State would bring home the title.
The Daytona State Women's Soccer Team will now prepare for the upcoming Region 8 Tournament scheduled for October 25th and 27th hosted by Daytona State.
