Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona State College women's soccer team battled Miami Dade College Tuesday, October 1 in Miami, in a 2-0 win, which marked the squad's fifth clean sheet of the 2024 season.
A 37th minute goal from sophomore Sophia Varga (Flagler, FL) off a corner kick taken by Valeria Vasquez (Antioquia, Colombia) would get the Falcons on the board heading into halftime. The Falcons out-shot the Sharks 16-0 in the first half of play.
The combination between freshman Shaneil Buckley (Portmore, Jamaica) and sophomore Alyse Then (Port Jefferson Station, NY) would close out the scoring for the Falcons in the 73rd minute of play to earn the win and shutout. This is the second win over Miami Dade in Region 8 play for Daytona State.
Buckley fired a match-high seven shots. Freshman Julianna Trujillo (Cocoa, FL) made three saves to earn her fifth clean sheet of the season.
Daytona State led in shots by a 27-10 margin and 5-4 in corners. Daytona State moved to 7-3 (3-1-0 Region 8) on the year while Miami Dade moved to 7-3 (2-2 Region 8).
The Falcons will host Pasco-Hernando State College Saturday, Oct.5 at the Daytona State College soccer stadium in a 11:00am Homecoming match. The Falcons will then close out the weekend as they face USC Lancaster at home on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2:00pm.
