Six Falcons Score in 7-0 Win over South Georgia State to Close out their Weekend
Daytona Beach, FL – Closing out their Georgia road trip, the Daytona State women's soccer team banded together in a dominating 7-0 shutout win over the Hawks of South Georgia State College on Sunday afternoon. On a day where six Falcons scored, Jada Clarke was the key piece as the sophomore registered a four-point game scoring a goal in each half of play.
Five of the seven goals scored by the Falcons came courtesy of first-years, starting with Jimena Castro who broke open the scoring in the opening 20 seconds of play. Castro finished her chance on a cross from Risako Abe deep in the final third for her first career goal. Abe would soon follow up with her own goal in the 10th minute of play from a through ball played by Valeria Vasquez. Vasquez would then score her own unassisted goal of the match in the 19th minute of play. Vasquez and Abe are tied with 6 points on the young season to lead the Falcons.
Just over ten minutes later Clarke would score her first goal of the match and take the Falcons into halftime 4-0.
Opening the second half, freshman, Morgan Long would score her first goal of the year on a header from a corner sent in by freshman, Madison Johnson. Newcomer, Shaneil Buckley would score her first goal of her Falcon career from a ball delivered by Alyse Then from the right side in the 83rd minute of play.
The final goal of the day came in the 88th minute as Clarke picked up a ball in the box from a corner kick.
As the Falcons outshot the Hawks 21-2 and 9-0 in the second half, the Falcons freshman goalkeeping duo of Juliana Trujillo and Agnete Saerkjaer made one save total.
The Falcons return to action on Thursday, Sept. 12, when they take on LSU Eunice in Millbrook, AL at the Fields at 17 Springs followed by a Nationally ranked match between Daytona State and Tyler Junior College on September 14th.
