Daytona Beach, FL – The Daytona State women's soccer team hosted Region 8 member Miami Dade at Falcon Stadium for their 2024 season home opener. Daytona State defeated Miami Dade by a score of 3-1. The Falcons are now 4-2 this season.
The Falcons started off strong with the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. This goal was scored by freshman, Valeria Vasquez. Daytona State would score their second goal in the 19th minute when freshman, Jimena Castro would pick off a pass from the Sharks defense and find the back of the net for her second goal of the season. The duo of sophomore, Alejandra Espinosa and freshman, Hailey Martinkovic would link up deep in the final third for the third goal of the match. Martinkovic would find Espinosa in the midfield who would beat the Sharks goalkeeper over the top off a one touch finish.
To make the game 3-1, Miami Dade scored their first and only goal in the 62nd minute. The Sharks attempted four shots on goal, freshman, Juliana Trujillo had three saves. Trujillo played the entire 90 minutes. The Falcons outshot the Sharks 10-7
The Falcons next match is at Falcon Stadium again on Friday, September 20th against Eastern Florida. Kickoff is at 7:00 P.M.
