Daytona Beach, FL — The #1 Daytona State Falcons opened their 2025 season with a statement, securing two decisive victories over the weekend. The Falcons upset nationally ranked #11 Butler Community College 3-1 on Friday and followed up with a commanding 8-0 win against Montgomery College on Sunday.
In the opener against #11 Butler CC, the Falcons scored first with a strike from Jimena Castro in the 77th minute. Risako Abe added a crucial goal to help put the Falcons up 2-1 with an assist by Vanessa Manoil and Shaneil Buckley in the 79th minute. Sophomore forward Buckley finished off the scoring in the 84th minute. Daytona State outshot Butler CC 24-5. Sophomore Julianna Trujillo picked up the win with one save.
Sunday's match was a showcase of offensive firepower and defensive dominance. Buckley delivered a hat trick, continuing her standout form. Valeria Vasquez was equally impressive, contributing two goals and two assists, while Abe added another goal and two assists, demonstrating her versatility and vision on the field. Reese Garcia scored two goals, and Castro and Blanche Buffarot each picked up an assist on the day.
The Falcons completely controlled the game, outshooting Montgomery College 26-0, a testament to their relentless attack and airtight defense.
With a 2-0 start to the season, the Falcons are building momentum and confidence heading into their next match. Daytona State will head out on the road to face Harford Community College and USC Lancaster on September 5th and 7th.
