Daytona State women's cross country heads to Tallahassee for the 2025 FCSAA Region 8 Championships.
Daytona State women's cross country heads to Tallahassee for the 2025 FCSAA Region 8 Championships. The women's race will start at 9am, preceded by the men's race at 8am. The Falcon women finished runner-up in last year's event and have won the meet in 2020 and 2023. Falcons who have won the individual title were Harleigh Bilz Crist in 2020 and 2021, Shannon Jones in 2022, and Giovana Meade in 2023. Jones and Meade would go on to earn All American at the NJCAA National Cross Country Championships. There have been sixteen Falcons to make All Region by placing in the top seven in the championship race. The 2025 squad has proven to be the fastest team in Falcon history. "This is an amazing group. We not only recruited good runners, but people who have been committed and dedicated to the team all fall. They are simply our best team thus far and we are looking to finish this season as strongly as possible." commented Coach Judy Wilson. The team has been lead by freshman Emma Turner, who has been followed closely by sophomore Brianna Crawford. Filling out the top five has been freshmen Kyleigh Halloran and Kennedy Flores and sophomore Tiffany Cox. The next four Falcons finished within fifteen seconds of each other two weeks ago at the Jayhawk Invitational in Muskegon, Michigan and Wilson expects that tomorrow's race could be quite interesting. "Running in a pack with your teammates can be a very powerful thing. We want to get as many runners as possible into the top fifteen of the field," commented Wilson.
